Trouble

I remember a friend, a wonderful, wise old man, who was one of the happiest personalities I knew anywhere. His life had not been an easy one, and he had known many real hardships and difficulties. I often wondered as to the secret of his happiness and peace of mind. That secret is revealed in a little poem which he wrote and which we would all do well to give a place in our philosophy of life:

Better never trouble trouble
Until trouble troubles you.
For you’re sure to make your trouble
Double trouble when you do.
And your trouble, like a bubble,
That you’re troubling about,
May be nothing but a cipher
With the rim rubbed out.
