“I go to prepare a place for you ...” (John 14:3).
After a long illness and much suffering, [First Name] has died. Her (His) hard days are over, now and forever. For her (him), the promises of Christ at the end of John’s Gospel have been fulfilled: “I go to prepare a place for you … I will not abandon you … I will not leave you desolate.”
Because [First Name] was very much in touch with these promises, because she (he) had an abiding faith in those promises, she (he) had invited Christ into her (his) dying. She (He) invited Christ into her (his) experience of sadness, anxiety, anger, fear, and of pain so that she (he) was never left alone to bear the burden.
Think of that! The Real Presence of Christ was available to her (him) in her (his) suffering and in her (his) dying.
How wonderfully this reality comes through in the beautiful strains of “Precious Lord” …
Precious Lord, take my hand
Lead me on, and help me stand.
