TOO BAD FOR PRISON
King Frederick the Great of Prussia visited Potsdam Prison. Each prisoner he visited declared his innocence to the king and beseeched the king’s pardon. Only one prisoner admitted his guilt and asked the king for nothing. The prisoner felt that he deserved his imprisonment. At the end of his tour, the King told the warden, “Release the man who admitted his guilt. I am afraid this one guilty man will corrupt all these innocent men in here.” Adapted from a submission by Craig Burkholder, Hudson, Indiana
