SCIENCE AND MIRACLES

Here is one that may be more relevant for travelers: An incident at an airline counter in Philadelphia shows how our age takes miracles for granted. The clerk picked up the telephone and heard the caller ask, “How long does it take to go from Philadelphia to Phoenix?” Because the clerk was busy with a customer and would have to look up the answer, she said, “just a minute.” As she was about to put down the phone, the clerk heard the caller say, “Thank you” and hang up.
