NOT DEAD UNTIL FORGOTTEN
This legend, set in an African village, began with Ogaloussa as he set out to hunt one morning, leaving behind his pregnant wife and four sons. Ogaloussa was eventually killed by a leopard. His body lay deep in the forest, discarded and forgotten. Eventually, his widow gave birth to a son who was named Puli, whose first words were, “Where is my father?” Puli’s question forced the other family members to think of Ogaloussa and his failure to return from the hunt. The four older brothers, each of whom possessed special skills, decided to combine their efforts to find their father. Once in the forest, the brothers became lost several times, but eventually found their father’s remains. Each son then decided to use his special skills to bring Ogaloussa back to life. One son assembled the body, putting flesh and bones together; another put breath into the lifeless body; a third son put movement into Ogaloussa’s body while the fourth…
