Naivete | Children | Peace | War

“Happy the peacemakers. They shall be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9).

A story appeared in Reader ’s Digest’s “Humor In Uniform” section about a father and his six-year-old daughter who were looking through some old family photographs. “My daughter,” the father said “a child of the space age, came across a picture of me taken when I was in the Army Reserves. ‘Daddy,’ she asked, ‘were you in a war?’ ‘Yes,’ I fibbed, to see what her reaction would be. Wide-eyed, she gasped, ‘Against which planet?’”

Not content, apparently, with leaving our children a legacy of war on earth, we’ve already got them used to the idea that if we ever do discover living creatures on other planets, surely…
