“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve” (Mark 10:45).

In Luke’s Gospel, we read the story of a rich young man who mistakenly believed that not being a murderer or a thief or a liar or an adulterer or a a disrespectful son is the complete fulfillment of one’s duty to neighbor. That was his formula for life, but not God’s, as Jesus explained. Along with the duty not to do violence to your neighbor, God imposes the duty to bind up your neighbor ’s wounds.
