A small midwestern community depended on the large manufacturing plant in town as its primary source of employment. The community was devastated when the plant was forced to cease operations. One Sunday, a local Pastor sympathetic to the needs of his out work parishioners, announced that he was going to do something he had never done before. He told them that when the collection basket was passed, those who are were need should take from it without shame. The Pastor had placed one hundred dollars of his own money in the basket in one and five dollar bills. When the basket was passed, many did take from it, but when it was returned to the altar it contained $107.00 more than the Pastor had contributed.
