At the beginning of the school year, the following conversation took place between a mother and daughter … Mother (from outside daughter_s bedroom door): “Rise and shine. Don’t be late for your first day back in school.”
Daughter (from her bedroom): “I don’t want to go! I’ve got a stomach ache! My head hurts and I think I have a fever!”
Mother: “Come on, now. I know you’re not really sick. And besides, your students will be expecting you.”
In the final days of His ministry, Jesus spent much time preparing His disciples to deal with life after He was gone. He exhorted them to remain in constant touch with the reality that God is in charge — always. He reminded them of the Old Testament “flood story” in which a People who had lost touch with that reality were destroyed. And He instructed them to live in the spirit of high expectation:
