Imagine for a moment what life would be like if you believed with your whole being that God was against you or, at best, indifferent toward you. Imagine that you believed your life wasn’t going anywhere. Imagine that you believed the Creator had cruelly destined you to struggle through life trying to forget that your existence was meaningless. If you can imagine that, then take a full one hundred and eighty-degree turn, and you will begin to get the feel of what the Gospel writers are trying to say to us in their stories about Jesus’ life and ministry. You will have come full-circle because what they are trying to say is that God is for you, God loves you, God believes in you. What they are trying to say is that Jesus is the supreme gift of a loving God to His beloved human creatures; that Jesus is the gift from God that opens the way to New Life; that Jesus is the gift…
