Imagine, for a moment, looking up to an old attic ceiling. You see a little movement going on in one of the corners. As your eyes focus in on the area you discover a small spider squirming around. Gradually it moves down, unfurling a fine, silky string and eventually brings it down gracefully to the floor. Have you ever wondered, after the spider has unfurled this long strand, if you could gather it all up and get it back inside of it? Do you think you could do that? No, you could not — because within a few moments the spider has spun a strand that is equivalent to more than the total bulk of its body. It’s awesome, when you really think about it. How did the spider manage to perform this wonderfully creative act?
