While visiting her sister and family, Karen Johnson presented a $20 bill to one of her teenage nieces. The young woman expressed a certain amount of reluctance to accept the gift saying, “Oh, that’s very nice of you Aunt Karen, but you really don’t have to do that.” To which Aunt Karen replied, “I want you to have it. After all, that’s what Auntie’s are for.” Whereupon the grateful niece gave her a hug and whispered in her ear, “Gosh Aunt Karen, you sure know your job description.”
In today’s Gospel Lesson, Jesus begins to provide His twelve Apostles with their job description. They are to exercise the authority He has given them and go out among the people and cast out unclean spirits. They are to anoint the sick with oil and cure them.
