From time-to-time God reveals himself in the lives of certain people in a very dramatic way — a way that often changes the course of history. The conversion of Paul on the road to Damascus is probably the classic example of this Divine phenomenon. Paul had been a “Pharisee of Pharisees,” trying harder, perhaps, than anyone else to earn God’s love and favors. To Paul, this included persecuting the Christians — having them arrested and imprisoned and even executed. Then some mysterious force began working within him. But Paul resisted … and resisted.
