A number of years ago when the new Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Airport opened it was hailed as one of the biggest and best-equipped air terminals in the world. Within a few seconds of flying time from the airport, standing on the highest point in the area, was Union Church. Members of the Church feared that sooner or later a low-flying jet coming in for a landing would crash into the Church steeple. To lessen the danger, an eight-foot, neon-lighted cross was erected on top of the steeple. When asked to comment on the bright-shining cross, one of the veteran jet pilots said, “It’s a real Godsend! Most of us use it as a guide to the field.”
