Once upon a time, there was a magic Christmas tree that was positioned exactly in the middle of the world. It was beautifully decorated with presents and tinsel and colored candles. And all the little children would come running to see it when the candles were lighted. Most children could come to the tree whenever they desired, but a few were sick, and some were too poor —- they had to work in the mines. Some had difficulties with their legs and their feet, and they could not walk to see the beautiful tree. Looking around at the children gathered beneath the branches of the magic tree, the One who provided it asked the little children, “Where are the others?” After a moment of silence one little boy answered. “They couldn’t come. And it’s too bad because they’ll miss all these beautiful presents.” Then another child spoke up. “They don’t deserve a Christmas tree.” And one more said, “There won’t be enough presents for us…
