One day, he met a traveler who told him about a faraway land where onions were unknown. “No onions?” said The Dreamer, “I’ll go there and introduce the people to this wonderful vegetable and I’ll be greatly rewarded.” So he acquired a big wagon-load of onions and, after a long and arduous journey, he arrived at the distant land. There he went directly to the royal palace where he was granted an audience with the King.

”Your Highness,” he said, “I am pleased to tell you that I have brought to your country a new vegetable that can improve all foods. Even by itself, it is a gourmet’s delight.” The King was intrigued. So he arranged a special dinner to taste the onions and evaluate the Dreamer’s lofty claims. First, it was served to a group of commoners, then, in turn, to prelates, ministers of state, members of the royal court, and, finally, to the King himself.
