Years ago, a missionary told a story about his encounter with a Japanese convert struggling to grasp Christian theology. “Honorable Father, very good,” said the convert to his mission teacher. “Honorable Son, very good,” he continued. “But Honorable Bird I do not understand at all.”
To that man, struggling with his understanding of the “Honorable Bird” (the Holy Spirit), we might offer these words:
“Think of God in His forgiving, invading, energizing, vitalizing, renewing, enlightening, convicting, and strengthening aspects, and we shall come somewhere near the Holy Spirit.” -1
When Jesus was preparing the disciples for His death, He said to them, “… the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My Name, will instruct you in everything, and remind you of all that I have told you. ‘Peace’ is My farewell to you, My peace is My gift to you” (Jn. 14:26-27).
