In today’s Gospel Lesson, the Passion Story according to John, before Pilate hands Jesus over to His executioners, he says to Him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answers, “It is you who say it. Yes, I am a king. I was born for this: I came into the world to bear witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of the truth listen to My voice.” And Pilate replies, “Truth? What is that?” (Jn. 18:37-38).
That is the question! Our ability to deal effectively with political and social problems or career problems or family problems depends largely on our attitude and approach to the mystery of Truth. The key word is mystery. Like the Mystery of God, no one has ever taken the measure of Truth. And no one has ever really taken the measure of Christ. Jesus came and went in mystery.
