In a “Peanuts” comic strip, Linus is listening to Sally as she boasts about her religious zeal, and her potential as an effective evangelist. She says to Linus,
“I could be a terrific evangelist. Do you know that kid who sits behind me in school? I convinced him that my religion is better than his religion.”
Linus asks, “How did you do that?”
To which fearless little Sally says,
“I hit him with my lunch box!”
In today’s Gospel Lesson, Jesus is instructing the disciples on their need to be open and fearless in what they say. Earlier, Jesus had warned them saying, “Beware of men. . . You will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake to bear witness. . . But do not worry about how to speak or what to say. . . because it is not you who will be speaking; the Spirit of your father will be speaking in you” (Mt. 10:17,18,20). And…
