With Sunday closing in, the pastor of a big city church sat down to prepare his next sermon, but he was coming up dry. Thinking a brisk walk might clear his head, he set out with a pen and a pad in hand, just in case he got some sermon ideas along the way. As he strolled among the city streets, a sign posted in front of a cafe caught his eye. It read:
Had a rough week? Tired, exhausted, bored?
All beer, wine, and cocktails only $3 — every day between 6 and 8.
Come in tired. Go out happy!
This gave the preacher an idea, and he began writing furiously. Whereupon the cafe manager came out yelling, “What are you doing, stealing my advertising?” To which the pastor replied, “Don’t bug me. I’m writing a sermon.” And so he did. And that Sunday he preached a sermon in which he asked the congregation … Had a rough week?…
