Prayers for Worship April 2013

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP April 7, 2013
Greeting
Open your eyes and see the beauty
which the Lord has made;
Open your hearts to prepare yourself to receive God’s wondrous gift.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Penitential Prayer
So often do we fail to follow
Your Saving Light;
So often do we hesitate in doubt
to witness as Christians.

Yet, we turn with confidence to God,
hoping in His compassion.
And so often, so often,
does He pardon us our sins.

Blessing
Let us go forth in peace,
free of hesitation and doubt,
refreshed and strengthened
by the abiding Presence of the Holy Spirit.

Let us witness to everyone we meet
the sweet and saving Love of Christ.

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP April 14, 2013

Greeting
The Lord is calling us:
Come, tend My sheep
feed My lambs
watch over My flock!”
Come, answer the Lord’s Call
and be a Shepherd for Christ!

Penitential Prayer
“Tend My Sheep!”

Lord, we confess that this simplest command is the most often disregarded.

Forgive us, Lord, for being willing to gather in Your Name, but unwilling to scatter amongst those who are in need of Your saving word.

Forgive us, Lord, for our unwillingness to proclaim Your Good News Message to the world.

Forgive us, Lord, for our unwillingness to feed Your lambs, look after Your sheep, feed Your sheep.

Forgive us, Lord, for not looking after all of
Your flock.

Forgive us for being Poor Shepherds!

Blessing
We do love You, Lord.
We promise to go out and

feed Your lambs
and tend Your sheep

on the hillsides
and in the valleys

on this day
and on all days.

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP April 21, 2013
Greeting
Quiet your minds!
Let Christ speak.
Open your ears,
Let them listen.
Open your hearts!
Let Christ enter.

Penitential Prayer
Father, we confess our stubborn, “know-it-all” ways!

Though we followers of Christ are called to make a difference in this troubled world, we remain committed to the status quo.

We haven’t been listening to the Word of God who was made flesh and dwells among us.

Though we followers of Christ are called to equip ourselves for serving others in a ministry of love, we remain indifferent to their needs.

We haven’t been listening to the Word of God who was made flesh and dwells among us.

Though we followers of Christ are called to set the world on fire in a manner far out of proportion to our numbers, we remain cool to this proposal.

We haven’t been listening to the Word of God who was made flesh and dwells among us.

Father, forgive us for not listening!

Blessing
Go in peace — the peace of heart
and mind and soul that comes from
listening to the Word of God.

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP April 28, 2013
Greeting
We come to this House of Worship to do many things:

sing and listen
preach and pray
seek guidance and give thanks.

There are many things to do here, but only one reason why we are here: our love for God and neighbor.

Come, join your brothers and sisters
in song
in prayer
in thanksgiving
in love.
Penitential Prayer
Forgive us, Lord, for our lack of Evangelism:
We welcome Your Gospel Truth
but keep it to ourselves

We hear Your promise of fulfillment
but fail to repeat it to others

We treasure the constancy of Your forgiveness but we are not constant in our forgiveness of our brothers and sisters.

We want to follow Jesus into Your Kingdom of Love but we seek entry by means other than loving service

We hear, we welcome, we treasure, we accept the Good News of the Gospel, but we do not shout it from the rooftops.

Forgive us, Lord, for our complacency.

Blessing
Let us go and proclaim our Christianity!
We will not need
signs
or billboards
or advertisements.

For the world will know who we are by our love.

Go now as a People in love!
