Prayers for Worship July 2022

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
July 3, 2022
Greeting
Hear the Word of the Lord!
The Reign of God is at hand.
Hear the Word of the Lord!
New life is for now.
Hear the Word of the Lord!
Eternal life has already begun.
Hear the Word of the Lord!
Death and evil are conquered.
Hear the Word of the Lord!
You live in Resurrection Time.
Hear the Word of the Lord!
Then pass it on.

Penitential Prayer
Heavenly Father,

How often it appears that the structures of this world
depend upon our acting on a level beneath the dignity
to which You are calling us!
How often it appears that we are unmindful of our capacity
to seek Your glory above our own!
How often it appears that we are unaware of our calling to
be living reflections of Christ, our Model and our Savior!
How often it appears that we are uncommitted to the
ministry of love to which You have appointed us!
How often it appears that we are less than devoted to our
mission of sharing the Good News that the “Reign of
God is at hand!”

Heavenly Father,
for our lack of dignity,
for our mindless drifting through life,
for our lack of devotion to building Your
Kingdom of peace and brotherhood,
for our failure to be Jesus\’ true disciples,
we ask Your merciful forgiveness!

Blessing
We go in the certain knowledge
that we are made in God\’s image
and, that we are destined for fulfillment
in His eternal service.

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
July 10, 2022
Greeting
What shall we do to inherit everlasting life?
We shall love God with all our heart and soul and strength
and
We shall love our neighbor as ourself.

We have come, therefore, out of desire for union with
God and neighbor both.

Penitential Prayer
We confess to being more concerned with formulating
definitions of “neighbor” than being neighbor;
We confess to being more concerned with pie-in-the-sky
holiness than down-to-earth religion;
We confess to being more concerned with holding ourselves
up as superior to the world than to embrace the world.

Forgive us, Lord, for not remembering that until the Kingdom comes in its fullness, You are present to us in this working, sweating, suffering, itching, yearning world.

Blessing
Our Christian goal is not ultimately to define neighbor, but to be neighbor. We go in confidence, therefore, that by the Grace of God in Jesus Christ, we can be what we are intended to be: a good neighbor.

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
July 17, 2022
Greeting
We have “chosen the better part.”
We have gathered together in Jesus\’ Name.
We have come
to listen,
to learn,
to share.

Penitential Prayer
Lord …
because we have not been open to Your Presence,
because we have not been sitting at Your feet,
because we have not been listening to Your Word,
because we have not been choosing the better part,
we beg Your pardon and we ask Your forgiveness.

Blessing
Having chosen the better part,
having gathered in Jesus\’ Name,
having listened to Jesus\’ Word,

we can begin to break down the barriers that divide us,
to build a New Community of brotherhood,
to live in the Peace of Jesus Christ,
because we have learned that it is possible!

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
July 24, 2022
Greeting
Jesus is calling us to a whole new attitude
toward prayer;
and
toward God.
“Abba” … “Father” … “Our Father,” we pray.

Our Father …
give us life
show us mercy
loves us infinitely.
Come, let us worship Our Father. Hallowed be His Name!

Penitential Prayer
Heavenly Father, oftentimes we are unwilling to
seek Your guidance,
want Your guidance,
pray for Your guidance,
but we are more than willing to offer You guidance.
Heavenly Father, we are more interested in
giving You information than
receiving Your Light.
Heavenly Father, oftentimes we are bent on
telling You what to do rather than
doing what You tell us to do.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for our non-prayers.

Blessing
Our Heavenly Father is high above all nations;

His glory is above the heavens.
He raises the poor out of the dust.
He lifts the lowly to the higher places.
All praise and glory to the
Heavenly Father of us all!

PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
July 31, 2022
Greeting
We have come together because our lives are secure
not in what we own,
not in who we know,
not in how much we earn.
We have come together because our lives are secure
in Him who cares for us,
in Him who fulfills us,
in Him who loves us.
We have come together to worship
Him who calls us.

Penitential Prayer
We have foolishly imagined that the quest for more and
more material possessions will bring us to fulfillment.

We have foolishly imagined that our number one need is
to be able to say to ourselves …
“My soul, you have plenty of good things
laid by for many years to come; take things
easy, eat, drink, have a good time.”

We have foolishly imagined that the human spirit can
somehow escape God’s creative intention to possess it.
We have foolishly overlooked God’s reminder …
“Fool! … Fool! This very night the demand
may be made for your soul.”
Lord, forgive our foolishness.

Blessing
Blessed are the followers of Christ who, wherever they go and whatever they do, are constantly trying to proclaim to the world …
“There is only Christ!”
