Thallus – circa A.D. 52, others at end of 1st century – no extant copies, only known through quotations by other writers (Africanus), “Thallus, in the third book of his histories, explains away this darkness as an eclipse of the sun – unreasonably, as it seems to me.” – Important, does not seek to explain away the existence, crucifixion or darkness of Jesus.
