ONE DAY RIP-OFF
A grandmother would up a children’s church bulletin and send it to her eight year old granddaughter in Tucson. On the days the bulletins would arrive the mother would sit down with the child and read her daughter the story. Then they would do the activities. The little girl was getting to the point where she was sharing the responsibility of reading. She was slowly reading through the latest issue, “…and Jesus said … one day … you will be with me … in heaven.” The girl stopped reading and reflected for a moment. The impact of Jesus’ words finally hit her as she exclaimed, “Is that all we get for being good? Only one day? What a rip-off!” Adapted from Catholic Digest, November, 1984, pg. 58
