FEWER RINGS ON DAD’S DAY
Officials at Illinois Bell said the telephone company handled about 2.5 million calls through mid-month Sunday, about the same number as on any other Sunday in June. It was a different story on Mother’s Day last month when callers placed a record 6 million in-state telephone calls and the telephone company had to call in 50 extra operators to handle the crush of offspring checking in with Mom. “Mother’s Day is the busiest holiday of the year for us,” said Bill Bergman, director of Illinois Bell’s Network Management Center. “Father’s just aren’t appreciated, I guess.” Bergman says he’s learned not to expect to hear from his own grown children on Father’s Day. “They only call when they need something.” he said.
