PRIMING THEIR PUMP
Children are like pumps that need a prime. Without a beginning flow of water, a pump will not effectively operate. Without the initial surge of flow the current will be weak. The parent has the special privilege in the life of his or her child to provide that initial flow of life. As the parent reads with the child, the pump is primed to reading. As the parent prays with the child, the pump is primed for prayer. As the parent sings with the child, the flow is set to music. As the parent demonstrates character and joy with the child, a life of character and joy is primed. By Michael Hodgin
