UNAFRAID TO BE ME
Tom Shultz of Group Magazine tells of his high school friend Ron: Ron was different than the other students. He knew it and he accepted it. Ron received a lot of ribbing. He laughed along, but never allowed the jeers to change him. Everyone laughed at Ron’s converted school bus with flashing lights, his briefcase, his shirt pocket plastic pen organizer, his flashlight, his screwdrivers, his collapsable baton, his Glen Miller records, his crewcut. He played the part to the end. He dared to be different. He never tried to be popular. He knew he was different and he enjoyed being different. And people like him because of it.
