THE MARRIAGE PRIZE
Winky Ryatt walks in and sees mom and dad hugging and asks, “Daddy, why are you always hugging Mommy?” Dad says, “I’m showing my affection for her, Winky! I really got a prize when I married your mother.” Mom is beaming. And Winky asks, “What was it?” A sad commentary, but sometimes true; there are those who go into marriage thinking they’re going to get a whole lot more out of it than they actually do. Part of the reason is that they don’t put as much into it as they expect to get out of it. Marriage is not a 50/50 proposition it is a 100/100 proposition with each giving a 100% to the marriage. If that happens, then both partners will get a prize. Each other. Adapted from The Ryatts, by Jack Elrod, December 8, 1992
