PEACE FOR A YOUNG PREACHER
The first time I preached in the church in which I grew up was a trying experience for me. I was driving from my parents’ home to the church, and I was very nervous. I started to panic as I got close to the church. I was still in seminary and not very experienced as a preacher, and these people had known me since I was a little baby. I was not sure I could face them. I had some serious doubts that I could bring a word from the Lord to them. As I began to think back over my sermon, suddenly it hit me that I really needed to listen to my own sermon. The words from Haggai jumped out at me, “I am with you says the Lord.” At that moment I experienced God’s peace and presence in the midst of my fear.
