TEAR THERAPY
Crying doesn’t just make you feel better, it may actually make you healthier, according to the research director of the St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center’s Dry Eye and Tear Research center in Minnesota. He says, “The tears you shed when you cry remove the chemicals that build up during stress.” “It isn’t until age 18 that the prolactin levels change dramatically in the sexes — and so does the incidence of crying. For example, in children age 1, both boys and girls cry an average 15 times a week. By age 6, they cry 7 times a week; by 12, the crying episodes are down to 2. Then the difference between the sexes begins: After age 18, women cry four times as often as men — on average, 5.3 times a month vs. only 1.4 for men.” From Christmas Shopping, Tears and Aching Back, Wisconsin State Journal, December 3, 1988
