Amy campaigned fearlessly against social ills, including widow burning and child prostitution. Some of her donors objected to this “distraction” from evangelistic work. Amy wrote: “Well, one can’t save and then pitchfork souls into heaven. There are times when I heartily wish I could. But souls, in India, at least, are more or less securely fastened into bodies.
