MIXED MESSAGE
A preacher was out for a walk one day when he saw an old man bent over a cat. But what was so strange was that instead of purring and mewing like cats normally do, this cat was hissing and arching its back as the old man rubbed and rubbed and rubbed. The preacher could tell that the old man was talking to the cat, and he was curious what the old man was saying. Maybe it had something to do with why the cat was hissing. The preacher walked up closer to the old man, petting the cat, just stroking it and stroking it and talking all the time. Finally he got close enough to hear what the old man was saying. Over and over again, every time he stroked the cat, which was hissing and arching its back, he said, “Turn around cat! Turn around cat!” The cat wanted the man’s petting, but not his direction.
