Have you ever seen the movie “Leap of Faith” starring Steve Martin? It’s about a traveling revivalist by the name of Jonas Nightengale. All the ads for the movie, and knowing that Steve Martin was it’s star, made it seem like a comedic put down of faith and religion. So I went with my guard well in place… In one sense, there was a put down of religion but only of that kind of religion but only the phoniness of religion and religiosity. And especially a put down of how some of these tent revivals and evangelists are really only in it for themselves. It was a good expose’ on how the so called “miracles” are performed. It showed the high tech sound and light and special effects. It showed how every thing was geared to move the folks emotionally without ever getting emotionally involved.
