SALES ETHICS
“Dad,” asked a young boy, “what does the word ‘ethics’ mean?” The father, a prosperous merchant, pondered the question for a few moments and then responded, “Son, you know your uncle and I are in business together. Now suppose that a customer comes in and mistakenly pays for something that only costs ten dollars with a twenty dollar bill. The customer thinks the twenty dollar bill is a ten dollar bill so the customer leaves without getting any change.” The father paused for a moment and then continued, “Now this is what ethics is: Ethics is whether I split the extra ten dollars with your uncle.” Adapted from Laugh, published by Lions Club International, Oak Brook, Illinois
