THE CHANGELESS GOD
In the presence of change and shifting values, people’s opinion’s have been altered by the passing of time. For instance, early on in the history of our nation’s railroads, leading economists declared: “The railways will never be of any use for the transportation of goods.” In 1845 when Mr. Adam Thompson stepped into the first bathtub in America, the newspapers said that he was going to “spoil the democratic simplicity of the republic.” In 1933 Mrs. Dorothy Thompson related that it only took her “just 50 seconds” after meeting Adolf Hitler to decide that “formless, almost faceless man would never become the dictator of Germany.” And lastly, here’s how the Chicago Times in 1865 evaluated Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address: “The cheek of every American must tingle with shame as he reads the silly flat, and dish- watery utterances of a man who has to be pointed out to intelligent foreigners as the President of the United States.” These statements are notable due…
