KEVORKIAN ON DEATH
In an interview with Dr. Jack Kevorkian who is better known as Dr. Death, Newsweek asked, “What’s the mood when patients are in the process of ending their suffering?” Kevorkian responded, “It’s a strange phenomenon. Not one of them fears death, not one. I’ve had all kinds of religions, and not one wanted a religious consultation. Religion is totally irrelevant to what they want.” Could it be, however, that Kevorkian has it all wrong? Perhaps the reason no one wanted a religious consultation is that religion — with its recognition of present suffering and future comfort — will not offer the message he or they want to hear.
