INTERPRETATION OF OUR SUFFERING
Terence E. Johnson wrote: “How do we read these experiences? There is a difference. Some may read the universe in terms of their pain. I could say, ‘that’s the way things are — hard, unfair, erratic. My pain tells me that.’ Then I encase my wound in hardness. Or we may read the pain in terms of what we believe the nature of the universe to be. If, deep down, we believe that the nature of the Infinite Spirit we call God is all loving, then we read our pain in terms of a universe at whose heart is a magnificent love; then our wounds are bathed in softness, healing, compassion.” Can we put our trust in a God who loves us and has promised never to forsake us?
