HEAVEN IS LIKE THE CAPITOL
Rev. Joseph R. Jeter, Jr. tells the story: In my first pastorate there was an old saint named Tommy who was coming to an end. I went to see him every day. Early one Sunday morning I got the call: “Come quickly.” I hurried to his side. “How are you doing, Tommy?” “Fine, just fine. And Joey?” “Yes.” “I saw heaven last night.” “Was it beautiful?” “Yes, it was very beautiful.” “What did it look like?” “Well, I couldn’t tell about all of it. But there was a building right in the middle that looked like the capitol of Texas. It was marvelous.” We visited a few more minutes, prayed some prayers, and then he left on his journey. Later I had to smile. The capitol of Texas? I hoped those who ran that capitol did a better job than those who ran the one in Austin. But then it hit me. Tommy had lived all his seventy- nine…
