SUPPRESSING THOUGHTS
Pennebaker writes: All of my research suggests that the best way to get out of it is to not try to suppress the thoughts. Confront them by writing about them and talking about them in a reflective manner. “Why am I having these thoughts, what does it say about the event, about my emotions?” After doing this, people find that they benefit not from releasing tension or blowing off steam, but by getting a new understanding of the event and of themselves.
