THE PROBLEM WITH PRESENTS
Have you ever noticed the difference between toddlers and older children on Christmas morning? Both are fascinated by presents under the tree, but for different reasons. The smaller the child the more he or she is attracted to the bright colored wrapping paper, ribbon and bows. Often when they finally get the package unwrapped they will put the present aside and play with the wrappings, much to the chagrin of the parents who spent a great deal of time selecting a most creative and educational gift. Older children, on the other hand, make quick work of the beautiful, carefully coordinated paper, ribbon, and bows. Like animals they tear through the paper rather than demonstrate patience, logic, or concern for the effort involved in creating the masterpiece. They know that the real treasure lies within.
