NO JOY ALLOWED
A young Dutch pastor confronted a serious situation on a Sunday morning. A severe storm had hit during the night, and his church was located some distance outside the village. There was no way, it seemed, to get to the church for Sunday worship. But then an idea came to him. He could get to the church if he put on his ice skates and went by way of the canal which ran in front of his church. When he began to think seriously about his plan, however, he concluded that it might not be such a good idea. The people of his church were fine folk, but they were also very strict about Sabbath observance. Skating was simply not to be done on the Sabbath.
