UNRELIABLE LINGUISTICS
James W. Moore, pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston tells of going to New York and riding in a cab with a cab driver from Honolulu. He writes, “I asked him how to correctly pronounce his state: ‘Is it Hawaii, or Ha-va-ii?’ He answered, ‘Ha-va-ii’ I said, ‘Thank you,’ and he said, ‘You’re velcome!'” From Lord, I Have Sinned But I Have Several Excellent Excuses, by Rev. James W. Moore, published by Abingdon Press, Nashville, 1991, pg. 80
