GOSPEL RELEVANCE
I am not ashamed of the gospel. I know of no other religion that fills the words “God,” “humanity,” and “life” with such glorious meaning as does Christianity. I know of no comparable parallel in the world’s religions to the picture of God’s love portrayed by Jesus in his parable of the prodigal son. The gospel seeks to anchor people’s lives in love and forgiveness. It is concerned to extend the horizon of their concerns, and to harness their compassion. It makes more sense out of more facts than any secular philosophy. As well as shedding light on the mystery of life, it provides power for the mastery of life. It offers forgiveness for past failures and inner strength to cope with life’s setbacks. From the moderator of the Church of Scotland
