I LIKE CHARLES
Charles Stanley recalls only two people during his entire childhood, other than from his mother, from whom he received words of affirmation and affection. One person who praised him was his teacher when he was five years old. As he was leaving school, he heard his teacher tell another teacher, “I like Charles.” The other person was a man who taught his Sunday School class. During the week, he would buy a newspaper from Charles and tell him, “Charles, I just want you to know I’ve been thinking about you, and I pray for you often.” Another time this man told Charles, “I love you, and I care for you, and I’m thinking about you.” What a joyous privilege it is to impact the life of another person, to get added to the list — whether short or long — of those who have communicated approval to another human being.
