GETTING OUT THE MESSAGE
Businesses go to great extremes of creativity to get their message out. Catchy slogans or names often make the difference. Johnson’s Flower and Garden Center in Washington D.C. advertises that their “business is blooming.” A certain garbage company offers a unique warranty: “We guarantee satisfaction or your garbage back.” American Way magazine identifies a few more: a car rental agency in New York named “Chariots for Hire,” an “Auto Orphanage” in Sacramento, a hot dog stand “Franks for the Memory” on the west coast, an upholstery service “The Recovery Room” in Salt Lake City, and an antique shop “The Den of Antiquity” in Las Vegas, and a self service dog wash “Shampooches” in California. Beauty shops and barber shops have fun with names and slogans as well: “The Clip Joint,” “The Hair Port,” “Hair It Is,” “The Mane Event,” “The Great Hair After,” “The Gang’s All Hair,” “Take It from the Top,” and “We Curl Up and Dye.” The more…
