PLANET HOLLYWOOD
During the opening of the new trendy “Planet Hollywood” restaurant in Dallas, Texas, an article appearing in the Dallas Morning News quoted Mr. Michael Bernacchi, a marketing professor at the University of Detroit Mercy. Mr. Bernacchi publishes The Eyeglass, a weekly dedicated to analyzing current marketing approaches. Mr. Bernacchi wrote a commentary explaining why he believed “Planet Hollywood” was such a booming success. In this commentary he said, “Just like fast-food chains and name-brand clothes, the movies and television have become Americans cultural glue… We have a thriving need to be identified, and some of the usual anchorings — our sense of religion, our sense of family culture — aren’t there any more. Who we are is not who our parents are. It’s who we identify with. So, now we have these new outlets — the Disney stores, the Planet Hollywoods.
