FALLING OR FLYING
Society’s image of itself, a cocktail of common sense and prejudices, personal experience and propaganda influences, does not correspond to reality. A year ago the comparable data were no less grim; it seems we have been falling into an abyss, but since it is bottomless, we have grown used to falling and acquired the sense that we are flying. Byron’s commentary: That last sentence reminds me of what happens to man when he becomes engrossed in sin. It matters not whether Christian or non-Christian. Sin tends to dull the senses until falling seems like flying. God’s Word is quite clear, however. It is appointed unto men a time to die, and then comes the judgment. Judgment will bring a rude awakening and falling will be recognized for what it is as those living in sin who have not claimed the blood of Christ crash through the gates of hell.
