TOO MANY LOVE SONGS
Brutus Thornapple, the comic strip’s Born Loser, and his wife Gladys are sitting in front of the fireplace. He says, “Nothing like a fire to warm the heart…eh, my sweet?” Gladys says, “It’s so romantic…just like the old days, Darling!” Brutus says, “Listen, Honey! They’re even playing our song on the radio!” Gladys says, “They’re playing ‘Misty,’ dear.” Brutus says, “Correct, my love!” Gladys responds, “But our song is, ‘As Time Goes By,’ Dearest!” Brutus takes exception and says, “Oh, no, it isn’t!” Gladys says, “Oh, Yes, it is!” Brutus hollers, “OUR SONG IS ‘MISTY,’ STUPID!” And Gladys yells back, “OUR SONG IS ‘AS TIME GOES BY,’ YOU IGNORAMUS!” Isn’t marriage wonderful? From The Born Loser, by Art and Chip Sansom, December 13, 1992
