Joe Arena, age 43, a municipal bond trader at Roosevelt & Cross Inc. in New York, is missing something: seven hours a week. That’s the additional time he’d like to have for leisure activities. “Life wasn’t always like this, before we had children and before we lived in Old Bridge, New Jersey, two hours away from work each way,” said Arena, whose wife is a manager at New York’s Commodity Exchange Inc. “I used to paint, but now that we have two children, 3 and 1 years old, I have no time. And if I did, there’d probably be twenty little fingers not counting toes, in the paint.” Arena, who is paid more than $150,000 a year, works from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. each day — as he always has.
