CONCERNS OF PASTORS
Results of Focus on the Preacher’s Family are interesting. Ten thousand ministers were surveyed, and the number one response of concern was the apathy of the people in their congregations. The survey was conducted by the Murdock Foundation and was discussed at a recent meeting of college directors held in Colorado Springs. The survey also revealed the following facts about ministers and their families: 1. Ministers feel isolated. 2. Ministers feel lonely with no close friends and little accountability. 3. Ministers feel inadequate to cope with the problems they face, such as violence in our society and the increase in family problems and divorce. 4. Ministers, as a whole, are worried and insecure particularly relative to tenure, retirement, salary, and health benefits. 5. Seventy-five percent of the ministers surveyed have a lower self image now than when they first entered the ministry.
